Flying Kites

We started off with Frank and Sylvia's recommendation of the Eagle Heritage just outside of Margaret River. This wildlife sanctuary and rehabilitation centre features Australia's largest collection of birds of prey including eagles, falcons, hawks and owls. The free flight demonstration was very impressive especially when the handler threw up small bits of meat and the Brown Kites caught it. We all thought the best part was being able to slip on a glove and have a Brown Kite perch on our arm. They are truly magnificent birds.

Pizza was requested for lunch so back into Margaret River to see what we could find. The pizza shop didn't open until 4 pm but we (I) lucked out and there was a farmers market in the square. I couldn't resist purchasing another small piece of pottery. There will definitely be an extra suitcase going home. We grabbed fish and chips for lunch and ate in a nearby park. For dessert we headed to the Fudge Factory. Out of a huge number of flavours, we finally decided on a plain chocolate and a mango one. Yum, Yum!

We enjoyed Ngilgi cave so much that we decided to do another one - the Lake Cave. It was 350 steps down into the Cave. It wasn't as large as Ngilgi cave but impressive none the less. The clear water of the lake is incredibly still and reflects the beautiful crystal formations. The Lake cave is known for it's fabulous formation called the 'suspended table.' The 'table', a massive column of calcite, I believe they said it is estimated to weigh over 5 tonnes hangs from the ceiling and hovers just a few centimeters above the lake. The cave itself is about 60 m underground.

Along our route to Augusta we stumbled upon a hedge maze that was unattended and had a donation box. It was an interesting concept and a good leg stretcher. Into Augusta for the night, and camped by the inlet.
