Busselton Jetty

Thursday morning was a little bit of a slow start. We noted here that caravan parks were often filled with old trailers (caravans) that have shacks attached to them for a sitting room.

Just like Canada, tenting seems to be a bit of a dying activity with more campers opting for the 'more is better' options. We had thought that we had adjusted to the time change but Aiden was up for a few hours in the middle of the night (Thank goodness he played quietly) and did not wake up until close to nine. Sean also spent some time setting up our internet and answering some email and blogging. We went to Bunbury and stopped at the Dolphin Discovery Centre and learned all about the dolphins in the area but were not fortunate enough to see any in the bay.

From there we headed along the coast to Busselton to explore the Busselton Jetty. It is the second longest timber jetty in the world (England has the longest) and is approximately 1.8 km long. We walked out to the end of it and went in the underwater observatory. It was very well done. It allowed us to experience what a scuba diver would see 8m under the surface of the ocean. It opened up another world that we would not of seen otherwise. We were able to see coral, fish, crabs and a starfish. The walk out and back was interesting in itself with what felt like gale force winds and all the fishermen along the way. One catch was a squid.

We worked up quite an appetite from the jetty so went and set up camp and headed for town in search of food and found a nice pizzeria that had delicious seafood pizza.
